In 1977 he finished the secondary school at Znaberd, within 1978 to 1984 studied in Yerevan State Medical Institute at the faculty of pediatrics. Since 1984 has been working in region Masis, starting working from a regional pediatrician, afterwards as a pediatrician of infection department, then as a pediatrician of children department, as a senior house-surgeon, and finally, since 1984 as the head of children department. On February 1, 2001 H. Balasanyan was appointed as a director of New Xarberd orphanage. He is married, has a daughter and a son.
